Problems remain on roads after Beryl tore through the Houston area | Check interactive traffic map

Downed power lines and traffic lights being out were just some of the issues on Houston roads the morning after Beryl hit.

HOUSTON — If you see barricades on Houston area roads in the aftermath of Beryl, do not drive around them. That's the message from the City of Houston after the storm tore through Southeast Texas.

Downed power lines and traffic lights being out were just some of the issues on Houston roads the morning after Beryl hit. If traffic lights are not functioning, drivers should treat intersections as a four-way stop.

KHOU 11 traffic expert Jennifer Reyna highlights several road closures in the downtown area Tuesday morning, including the following:

  • Sections of Allen Parkway and Memorial Drive in both directions
  • I-45 northbound entrance ramp
  • I-45 southbound from W. Dallas to Jackson Street
  • I-10 in both directions from I-45 north to Northside Main
  • I-10 eastbound between Yale Street to I-45 Gulf/Main

Drivers should also avoid underpasses as they may still be inundated with water from Beryl's torrential downpours.

If you can stay off the roads today, you should, Reyna said.

Just before 6 p.m., TxDOT announced that the North Freeway was reopened in both directions between the North Loop and I-10.

The Texas Department of Transportation reported a fleet of crews were working to assess and repair damage throughout the Houston district Tuesday morning.
