Houston traffic: Major highway construction projects to know about this weekend

KHOU 11 traffic expert Jennifer Reyna broke down three major highway construction projects taking place over the weekend.

HOUSTON — If you plan on being out and about in the Houston area this weekend, there are some traffic projects you'll want to know about

KHOU 11 traffic expert Jennifer Reyna broke down three major highway construction projects taking place over the weekend.

Starting at 9 p.m. Friday, all westbound lanes of the I-610 North Loop from the Hardy Toll Road to Airline Road will close for pavement repairs. That closure is expected to last until 5 a.m. on Sunday.

Over on the east side of town, I-10 will shut down at 9 p.m. Friday from Spur 330 to Monmouth Drive. One lane is expected to remain open while crews wrap up repairs on a bridge over the San Jacinto River. Officials said once the concrete is poured, a second lane will open up to help ease traffic. This closure is scheduled to last until 5 a.m. Monday.

Lastly, starting at 10 p.m. on Friday, crews are going to close both southbound lanes of the Ship Channel Bridge to prepare for months of traffic. One lane is expected to reopen Sunday at 9 p.m. Over the weekend, officials recommend using the East Freeway to access other port crossings this weekend, but due to the East Freeway going down to one lane, 146 may be the best alternate route.
