HOUSTON — An overturned 18-wheeler and HazMat spill is slowing traffic on the Gulf Freeway in southeast Houston Wednesday morning, according to Houston TranStar.

The freeway was shut down for part of the morning rush hour but has since reopened. However, traffic is still slow flowing the backup.

The 18-wheeler was leaking fuel onto the freeway that is running off onto the frontage road lanes.

This happened at 2:14 a.m. in the inbound, or northbound, lanes near Wayside.

KHOU 11 traffic expert Jennifer Reyna said drivers should use the frontage road to Telephone Road and then use the 610 Loop as an alternative route. However, if you are not familiar with this area, consider avoiding the area altogether.
