HOUSTON — Houston has the most congested stretch of roadway in the state. That’s according to a Texas A&M study on traffic.
For drivers who regularly take the 610 West Loop, it may be no surprise. That stretch of roadway from Highway 290 to the Southwest Freeway topped the list of the nation’s most congested roads. A stretch of the Southwest Freeway also came in high on the list. Highway 69 between Highway 288 and I-10 near the GRB Convention Center was ranked by the study as the No. 5 most-congested road in Texas.
Some more takeaways from the study:
- The average driver’s miles traveled increased by 7% in the last five years.
- Despite increased travel, delays actually decreased.
- The decrease in travel time saved drivers an estimated $915 million in time and fuel.
