If you plan to drive on I-10 East this weekend, there's a big closure you need to know about

The East Freeway will be shut down westbound between Mercury and the Loop from Friday night until Monday morning.

HOUSTON — If you’re out and about on the east side of Houston this weekend, there’s one big construction closure you need to know about.

Starting at 10 p.m. Friday, all main lanes of I-10 East westbound between Mercury Drive and the East Loop will be shut down. The closure is scheduled to last until Monday at 4 a.m.

According to the Texas Department of Transportation, that includes the U.S. 90 westbound ramp to the East Freeway.

So how do you get around it? If you’re heading westbound, exit at 610 North and head to Wallisville Road. Exit to the frontage road and U-turn to get back on 610 southbound.

You can then get back on I-10 East from there.
