Drivers heading southbound on Highway 288 should prepare for significant delays following a major crash involving an 18-wheeler and a hazmat spill.

Drivers heading southbound on Highway 288 in Brazoria County should prepare for significant delays Wednesday morning following a major crash involving an 18-wheeler and a hazmat spill.

According to Houston Transtar, the crash happened at 6:15 a.m. before Hage Ranch Road/Juliff-Manvel Road. Currently, the right shoulder, right lane, and left lane are blocked, leaving only one lane open for traffic.

Emergency crews are on the scene to address the hazmat spill and clear the wreckage.

Drivers traveling through the area should consider alternative routes or allow extra time for their morning commute.

Here are some alternative routes for drivers:

  • Use FM 521 as an alternative to bypass the affected stretch of Highway 288.
  • For those traveling farther south, Highway 6 may also be a viable option.
