Harris County commissioners unanimously approve lowering toll rates

The vote approved a 10% drop in tolls on the Sam Houston and Westpark tollways and the Hardy Toll Road.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Harris County commissioners unanimously voted to drop the prices of tolls across several tolling points.

Drivers will save now 10 percent on toll roads that are managed by the Harris County Toll Road Authority, including the Sam Houston and Westpark tollways and the Hardy Toll Road. The toll lanes on the Katy Freeway are not part of the deal, HCTRA says.

To get the discount, you'll need to have an EZ TAG. HCTRA will be providing up to eight free EZ TAGs per household.

HCTRA encourages drivers to link their credit cards to its website for automatic billing because if you opt to pay cash at the booth, you won't get the discount.

Officials hope to have the discounts in place by Labor Day.
