Motorcycle rider dies after being run over on East Freeway during hit-and-run crash, HPD says

The motorcycle rider of the Honda was lying in the roadway when he was hit by another vehicle that did not stop and provide assistance, police said.

HOUSTON — Police are investigating a deadly crash involving a motorcycle that shut down the East Freeway near Wayside Friday morning.

This happened at about 12:45 a.m. in the westbound, or inbound, lanes of the freeway.

The Houston Police Department said a 64-year-old man was killed in the crash.

Investigators said the man was riding a red Honda GL1800 motorcycle heading west when he hit the rear of a Toyota RAV4 being towed by a second Toyota RAV4. The crash spread debris across the roadway and left a maroon Dodge Ram pickup truck disabled.

The motorcycle rider of the Honda was lying in the roadway when he was hit by another vehicle that did not stop and provide assistance, police said.

The drivers of the Toyota and the Dodge remained at the scene and called 911.

Police said Houston Fire Department paramedics who responded pronounced the rider dead at the scene.

The freeway reopened shortly after 6 a.m.
