WALLER COUNTY, Texas – Four people were killed in a fiery, two-vehicle accident on Highway 290 in Waller County overnight.
According to State Troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety, it happened just before 1 a.m. Wednesday on the westbound lanes of Highway 290 near FM 359.
In a Wednesday afternoon update, DPS said that a Volkswagen was traveling westbound on 290 when it was struck from behind by a Chevrolet Impala, which was traveling at a high rate of speed. The Volkswagen caught fire following the collision.
The driver and three passengers in the Volkswagen were subsequently pronounced deceased. Troopers are currently trying to identify occupants.
The driver of the Impala, 41-year-old Robert Daniel Maxwell Jr., was transported to the hospital. DPS says he remains hospitalized for non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation is ongoing.
