Verizon Wireless customers report outages in Houston, other cities

"Verizon Wireless is currently experiencing an intermittent voice, text and data services interruption for customers in some markets in the south. Our engineers are aware of the issue and are working diligently to resolve it," the company stated at the time of the outage.

HOUSTON – Some Verizon Wireless customers in the Houston area were unable to make phone calls to non-Verizon customers due to a service outage on Tuesday morning.

The outage was reported before 8 a.m. Tuesday with some customers still not able to make phone calls as of 11:20 a.m. Central time.

Others said their wireless data and text messages were still working, despite the phone line outage.

Downdetector.com showed more than 3,000 Verizon customers reported outages in New York, Houston, Washington, Dallas, Georgetown, Brooklyn, Tampa, Long Beach, Atlanta and Austin.

The company released the following statement:

“Verizon Wireless is currently experiencing an intermittent voice, text and data services interruption for customers in some markets in the south. Our engineers are aware of the issue and are working diligently to resolve it.”

In May, T-Mobile customers experienced a similar outage across Houston when a fiber line was cut.
