Texans raise ticket prices for next year

The average cost for a seat for next season is $67.37, a 3.75% hike from 2008.

The Houston Texans announced their ticket prices for the 2009 season today. The Texans' average ticket price in 2009 will be $67.37 per ticket, which is up 3.75 percent from $64.94 in 2008. The NFL's average ticket price in 2008 was $72.20. Prices for more than 5,500 of the least expensive seats will remain unchanged in 2009. Parking will be increased $3 per car for each lot.

Given the Texans ticket price increase (3.75%) versus the league average in 2008 (7.9%), it is anticipated that the Texans will once again be in the bottom third of the NFL in ticket prices.

"We are sensitive to the economic challenges that our fans are facing," said Texans president Jamey Rootes. "We have worked diligently to implement a pricing structure for 2009 which keeps our prices in the lower half of the NFL but is adequate to continue our progress both on the field and off. Fielding a competitive team and delivering a world class experience for our fans demands that our revenues keep pace with our costs."

The Houston Texans celebrated their 70th consecutive sellout at Reliant Stadium against the Chicago Bears in the last game of the 2008 season, a Houston NFL record. Also, seven consecutive seasons is the longest sellout streak of any professional sports team in Houston history.

The Texans have gone 12-4 at home over the last two seasons. The 2009 home slate features games against the New England Patriots, New York Jets, Oakland Raiders, San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks as well as division rivals Indianapolis, Jacksonville and Tennessee.

Season ticket holders will have an exclusive opportunity to renew their seats for 2009 beginning the week of January 19-23. On average, Texans season ticket holders receive an 11 percent savings over single-game ticket prices. The average price for Houston Texans season tickets was well below the league average in 2008 as the Texans ranked 19th in the NFL.

Houston Texans home games will continue to be one of the best values in the NFL. The average price for a Texans ticket has been 10.17 percent below the league-wide average over the previous three seasons.

The price of a ticket for NFL games on average has increased at a considerably higher rate than that of a Texans ticket over the last three years. Since 2006, the league average has risen by over six percent yearly, while Texans tickets have increased an average of 4.25 percent per year.
