HOUSTON 11 Sports has learned that former Houston Dynamo midfielder Stuart Holden is unlikely to return to the team in 2010, and instead, will sign with a team overseas.
I believe all indicators are that Stuart Holden will sign with Bolton of the English Premier League, says Dynamo Chief Operating Officer Chris Canetti.
It is believed that Holden had been offered a 3-year guaranteed contract to stay with the Dynamo which would have made him the highest paid player on the team. However, after working with Holden, and his agent, for the past couple of months, both sides were unable to reach an agreement.
Because Stuart quit communicating with us, we re preparing for the worst, says team president and general manager Oliver Luck.
Holden has become one of the brightest stars in all of MLS, signing with the Dynamo back in March of 2006. This past year, he was called up to be a part of the US National Team, and the increased exposure has made him very attractive to teams overseas.
11 Sports has also learned that Holden has been in communication with several players and head coach Dominic Kinnear informing them of his decision to play in England.
It is believed his new contract is only for six months.
All this week, the team has been preparing themselves in case Holden decided to leave the team. On Thursday, the Dynamo acquired former Chivas USA midfielder Kevin Harmse via trade.
Canetti also informed 11 Sports that they have reach an agreement with both defender Eddie Robinson and defender/midfielder Richard Mulrooney.
Those acquisitions mean that 18 of the 21 players from last year s squad will be back in 2010.
