Intense soccer rivalry coming to Houston as NRG Stadium hosts its first Clásico de México

Past matches in other cities have seen big crowds.

HOUSTON — One of the most intense soccer rivalries in the world is coming to Houston

For the first time, NRG Stadium is hosting Chivas de Guadalajara and Club América from Mexico City on October 13.

All time, including official and friendly matches, América and Chivas have faced off 256 times with 96 wins in favor of América, 79 for Chivas and 81 draws

How big of a game is it? It's racked up major crowds from past games

In the U.S., the match in 2023 had more than 86,000 fans in attendance, more than 61,000 at Soldier Field in Chicago in 2019 and the crowd topped 60,000 at the Los Angeles Coliseum in 2018. 

NRG Stadium holes around 72,000 fans.
