WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Players for the Pearland Little League West All-Stars enjoy a different game on their days off at the Little League World Series.
Away from Lamade Stadium, players dig photo ops, love autographs and touring the Little League's museum.
But few things top the competition raging in their rec room: ping-pong.
According to Pearland first baseman, his teammate Alex Solomon is the best player.
"(It's) Alex easily," Mack said.
"Wait," said Alex's dad and manager Andrew Solomon. "Let's set the record straight: I am the king of the ping-pong table. It's not even close. And of the kids, it's my son Alex (who) is the king."
To support his claim, Solomon shared pictures of him in action against the coach from Rhode Island and a player from South Carolina's team.
"(The South Carolina player) became actually one of my favorite players just because I loved his competitive spirit, which you could see on the ping-pong table. Obviously, that's going to translate over to the baseball field also."
While it helps Solomon scout players on other teams, the ping-pong games help players bond.
"I've met kids from Japan, Australia, the Midwest, Northwest, everywhere," said Pearland player Tristan Schwehr.
It is an international day off outlet for the teams and the source of some debate.
"(Alex) is the best," Mack said.
"Alex will not beat me," Solomon quipped.
