Simone Biles adds original skill on uneven bars for Paris Olympics

If the Olympic gold medalist from Spring successfully completes the new skill during qualifying, it will become the sixth to bear her name.

PARIS, France —  Simone Biles is looking to add to the list of skills named after her in gymnastics' Code of Points.

The American superstar submitted an original skill on uneven bars to the International Gymnastics Federation on Friday. If Biles successfully completes it during women's qualifying on Sunday, the skill will become the sixth to bear her name in the code.

Editor's note: The above video originally aired on June 30.

Biles already has two elements named after on floor exercise and vault — including the Yurchenko double pike — and one on balance beam. She is looking to become the only active gymnast to have a skill named for them in all four events.

The skill Biles submitted requires her to do a forward circle around the lower bar before turning a handstand into a 540-degree pirouette. USA Gymnastics teased the move on X on Friday.

Bars is considered the “weakest” of Biles' events in the sense that just one of her 37 Olympic and world championship medals have come on bars.

She remains one of the top Americans on the event, though USA Gymnastics co-lead Chellsie Memmel said this week the Americans could sit Biles out of bars during team finals to give her a small break during the Games.

Flavor Flav says Simone Biles is his favorite athlete

Hip-hop artist Flavor Flav is in Paris as a sponsor and "hype man" for the USA women's water polo team. But he's also excited about watching Biles and her teammates.

“I want to go and see some of the gymnastics, because right now my favorite athlete right now to date, is Simone Biles. The reason why is because this girl is so devastating, she’s going on her ninth medal right now. That’s crazy!" Flavor Flav said at a news conference on Friday. "I want to see her get it, I want to see her achieve that. I’m a very big fan of hers, a very big fan like a lot of other people in the world is. That’s another thing on my bucket list, to go and meet Simone.”

Snoop Dogg shares laugh with Simone Biles' mom

Biles couldn't participate in Friday's opening ceremony because she's preparing to compete on Sunday.

Her family appeared on the broadcast with Snoop Dogg -- who carried the Olympic Torch Friday morning -- and mom Nellie Biles reminded him that they had met before.

“I didn’t know this, Nellie,” he said with surprise.

Biles’ mom then recounted an encounter in 2010 in Times Square when they asked the artist for a photo with the budding gymnast, “and you said 'Two minutes. One, two.’ And then you were gone.”

Snoop Dogg laughed and Nellie Biles then tried to Facetime her daughter to give Simone the chance to speak to Snoop.
