Former Texas A&M swimmer Alia Atkinson advanced to the Olympic Finals of the women's 100 meter breaststroke on Sunday in Rio.
Atkinson was the seventh-best swimmer in Sunday morning's preliminary round, finishing in 1:06.72 to qualify for the semifinals. In the semis, Atkinson was third in her heat, and fifth overall, qualifying for the finals in 1:06.52.
The 100M breaststroke final is Monday night in primetime on KAGS.
There was one other athlete with Texas A&M ties in action on Sunday in Rio. Former Aggie basketball player Antanas Kavaliauskas scored 6 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in Lithuania's 82-76 win over Brazil to open Group B play.
Kavaliauskas and Lithuania will play again on Tuesday vs. Nigeria.
