EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — The Houston Texans should have been down by a touchdown early in the second quarter against the Jets in Thursday night’s NFL primetime game, but a blunder by a Jets receiver turned those points into a New York turnover.
With the Jets driving at the Houston 19-yard line, quarterback Aaron Rodgers pitched to receiver Malachi Corley on an end-around and Corley took it untouched into the end zone for his first career touchdown.
Or did he?
With six points up on the board for the Jets, the refs took a look at it again and determined Corley actually dropped the ball before breaking the plane of the goal. The result – the call was overturned and it was ruled a touchback, with the Texans getting the ball!
Here’s that play…
Corley was a third-round draft pick out of Western Kentucky who has seen little action this season.
The mistake was reminiscent of DeSean Jackson's gaffe while he was a rookie with Philadelphia during a “Monday Night Football” game in the 2008 season. He celebrated a touchdown against Dallas prematurely by flipping the football behind him at the 1-yard line before he got into the end zone.
While the play made for a rough night for Corley, social media clearly had fun with it.
