Justin Reid is the center of attention in Texans rookie minicamp by virtue of being the team’s top pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. But Reid also draws more national interest because of his older brother, Eric.
The elder Reid was a first-round pick of the San Francisco 49ers in 2013 and was a versatile starter for the team through last season. However, his active involvement in the national anthem protest movement has outshined his on-field playing, and he currently remains unsigned.
Justin was asked about Eric during Friday’s meeting with the press at Texans minicamp.
“I’m proud of my brother,” Reid stated. “I’m supportive in everything that he does the same way I support all my family members in everything they’re doing and if they believe what they’re doing is right, then they should do it.”
But at the same time, he will not speak for his brother and did his best to stay at arm’s length from the controversy,
“I won’t speak for Eric, I’ll let him deliver his own message, but if you held a conversation with him, then you’ll really understand what he’s standing for.”
Justin also noted he hasn’t really had enough time to process his thoughts on the issue because he’s been so focused on the pre-draft process after the long season at Stanford.
