HOUSTON — A day after several big-name running backs were scooped up in free agency Monday, the Houston Texans reportedly made a deal to add one of their own.
The Texans acquired veteran running back Joe Mixon from the Cincinnati Bengals in a trade reported Tuesday morning, according to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport.
The terms of the deal have not been released at this time.
The Bengals had agreed to a deal with Zack Moss on Monday, so they planned to move on from Mixon. It was reported that he would be released, but then an agreement was reached on a trade with the Texans, Rapoport reported.
Mixon was a second-round pick for the Bengals in 2017. He has rushed for 6,412 yards and 49 touchdowns in his seven seasons with Cincinnati.
The Texans were in need of a running back after missing out on free agent Saquan Barkley who agreed to a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles. The New York Giants replaced Barkley by agreeing to a deal with Texans free agent running back Devin Singletary.
Mixon joins third-year running back Dameon Pierce, who is coming off a bit of a sophomore slump after rushing for 416 yards with 2 touchdowns last season. During his rookie year, Pierce had 939 yards rushing with 4 touchdowns.
