HOUSTON — Texans’ kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn has been clutch for the Houston Texans this season. And now he’s in the NFL record books.
Fairbairn had three field goals in the first half against Detroit Sunday night. One of them was from 56 yards out, which tied an NFL record, according to the Texans PR X account.
With the kick, Fairbairn has now connected on 11 field goals of 50 or more yards so far this season, tying the record set by the Raiders’ Daniel Carlson, who kicked 11 field goals of 50+ yards in the 2022 season. And for Fairbairn, he's still got seven games left this season to break the record.
The Texans have needed Fairbairn’s leg this season because of the number of close games the team has played. All but two going into Sunday’s game against Detroit have been determined by one score, so the Texans have needed every 3 they’ve gotten from him.
Earlier this season, Fairbairn earned AFC Special Teams Player of the Week. That honor came after Houston beat Buffalo 23-20. Fairbairn hit all three field goals, passing Kris Brown to become the Texans’ all-time leading scorer. Two of his 50+ field goals this season came in that game.
