The Houston Texans plan to honor former wide receiver Andre Johnson with several events this week before his induction Sunday as the team’s first “Ring of Honor” member.
The City of Houston on Tuesday will proclaim Sunday, Nov. 19, 2017, as “Andre Johnson Day.” Johnson, his family and friends will be attendance during the proclamation scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall.
Also on Tuesday will be an Andre Johnson Retirement Party hosted by children with the Houston Texans YMCA. It is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bowlmor Lanes. Those who plan to attend include corner backs Kareem Jackson and Johnathan Joseph, Texans mascot TORO, Houston Texans Cheerleaders and Texans Ambassador Chester Pitts.
Johnson also plans to sign autographs for -- and take photos with -- 80 lucky winners and their guests Thursday afternoon at NRG Stadium.
The former receiver, who spent 12 seasons with the team, signed a one-day contract on April 19 to officially retire as a member of the Texans. Johnson earned seven Pro Bowl berths with Houston and remains the team’s all-time leader in receptions (1,012), receiving yards (13,597) and receiving touchdowns (64). He will be inducted as the inaugural member of the Texans Ring of Honor during halftime of the team’s game against the Arizona Cardinals.
