HOUSTON — The Houston Texans will be without tight end Cade Stover on Sunday against the Dolphins.
The rookie out of Ohio State underwent an emergency appendectomy Saturday night, according to the team and won’t play. In a release, the Texans said Stover is doing well and is expected to make a full recovery. They didn’t specify how long he would be out.
This year, Stover has 14 catches for 132 yards and a touchdown.
Houston will also be without defensive back Jalen Pitre, who was put on the injured list this past week with a shoulder injury and will miss the remainder of the season. Receiver Stefon Diggs is also on the IR with a torn ACL. He, too, will miss the rest of the season.
On their Friday injury report, the Texans listed guard Juice Scruggs out against Miami with a foot injury.
The team should get linebacker Christian Harris back, though. Harris had been dealing with a calf injury, but was a full participant in practice on Friday and is listed as questionable. They’ll need the help at linebacker as Azeez Al-Shaair is serving the first game of his three-game suspension for the hit two weeks ago on Jacksonville quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
The game against Miami marks the start of three games in 11 days. After Miami, Houston gets Kansas City on Saturday and Baltimore on Christmas Day. They finish the season against Tennessee. The Texans have a two-game lead in the AFC South on the Indianapolis Colts and can clinch the AFC South with a win and a Colts loss to Denver.
You can watch Sunday's Dolphins-Texans game live on KHOU 11 at noon.
