Defensive backs took center stage on the final day of the 2018 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. With the Houston Texans having needs at both cornerback and safety, it was a big day for many potential Texans.

One realistic prospect for Houston who shined in Indy is Avonte Maddox from Pittsburgh. The plucky 5-9 cornerback turned in an official 4.39 40-yard dash and looked very fluid and twitchy in the on-field positional drills.

Maddox met with the Texans during Shrine Game week in January, where he was one of the most impressive players in St. Pete. His ability to play bigger than his size stood out.

He had an up-and-down career with the Panthers, primarily as an outside corner despite being under 5-10 and weighing just 184 pounds. He’s a potential solution for the Texans in the middle rounds.
