The disheartening 29-7 loss to Jacksonville in Week 1 took a major physical toll on the Houston Texans.

Nearly a third of the active roster came away on the injury report for Monday’s walkthrough, including several notable starters.

Brian Cushing has already been ruled out for the defense. With J.J. Watt, Jadeveon Clowney, Benardrick McKinney and Kevin Johnson all at least limited in Monday’s session, this might be the worst possible week for the Texans to have the short turnaround for a Thursday night game.

On offense, the situation is dire at tight end. Adding to the trouble is two starting linemen both being on the list, right guard Jeff Allen and center Nick Martin. The latter was the only starter up front who showed any sort of competence against the Jaguars, but he is limited with an ankle issue.

Also limited with an ankle malady is Deshaun Watson, which complicates game preparation for the quarterbacks. Erstwhile starter Tom Savage was a full go with a finger injury.
