HOUSTON — The Houston Rockets will have a new look on the court this season for several games, honoring Houston heroes and the legacy of two of the city's basketball legends.
The team gave a sneak peek at their NBA City Edition uniforms Thursday. The new threads are part of the “Hometown Heroes” storyline that the NBA and Nike are teaming up for to celebrate teams’ connections to their cities.
The Rockets will wear the uniforms for 13 “Hometown Heroes” games at Toyota Center. At each of those games, they’ll recognize someone who is making a positive impact in and around Houston, amplified by Rockets' legends Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler.
The jerseys have ‘H-Town’ across the front of them, honoring Olajuwon and Drexler for how they elevated basketball in the city during their days at the University of Houston, According to the Rockets, the 'H-Town' nickname appeared on the Coogs' warmup jerseys during the 1982-83 season.
You can buy Rockets City Edition jerseys at RocketsShop.com or at the Rockets team store at Toyota Center beginning at 8 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 3. The first 200 fans who buy one of these H-Town jerseys will get an 8x10 print signed by Olajuwon or Drexler.
