Justin Verlander takes mound for Sugar Land Space Cowboys this weekend

Verlander is on a rehab assignment with Sugar Land. The Astros' ace has been out since June 9 with neck discomfort.

SUGAR LAND, Texas β€” Three-time Cy Young Award winner Justin Verlander is heading back to the mound for game action.

The Astros’ ace, who has been sidelined since June 9 with neck discomfort, is scheduled to start his rehab assignment this weekend in Sugar Land with the Space Cowboys. He’s expected to pitch at Constellation Field on Saturday against the El Paso Chihuahuas at 7:05 p.m.

So far this season, Verlander is 3-2 with an ERA of 3.95.  

For Verlander, this will be his second start for the Space Cowboys this season. Back on April 7, he threw three innings in a rehab start against the Las Vegas Aviators. In that start, he issued one walk to go with his six strikeouts.

Verlander Is a nine-time MLB All Star and has been on both Astros World Series-winning teams.
