HOUSTON — Jose Altuve is getting closer to the record for the most postseason home runs in Major League Baseball history.
The Astros second baseman blasted a three-run shot in the ninth inning of ALCS Game 5 Friday night, giving Houston a 5-4 lead over the Rangers. It also gave Altuve 26 career postseason home runs. That’s second only to Manny Ramirez, who has 29 playoff dingers in his career.
Altuve’s 26th career home run shouldn’t be a surprise. It came in a ballpark that he’s seen plenty of longball success recently. In Wednesday's game, Altuve went deep for his 25th career postseason home run. And the last time the Astros had a series at Globe Life Field, it was September and Altuve went deep in four consecutive at-bats in four consecutive innings.
Here's Altuve's ninth inning home run on Friday.
The Astros lead the ALCS, 3-2, and can close out the Rangers Sunday at Minute Maid Park.
