HOUSTON — Former Astro Yuli Gurriel is set to make a return to Minute Maid Park Sunday afternoon - although he won't be wearing Houston colors.

Gurriel will make his debut as a Kansas City Royal as they take on his former team in Houston. According to a report on MLB.com, the Royals picked up the former Astro in a Minor League trade from the Braves on Saturday. He had been playing for Triple-A Gwinnett.

Gurriel, who's lovingly known as La Piña, will play designated hitter and bat seventh in the Royals lineup.

He joins the Royals as they try to stave off being swept by the Astros, who won the previous three in the four-game series. The Astros are looking to maintain their five-game lead over the Seattle Mariners in the American League West.

Gurriel last played for the Astros in 2022 when the team won the World Series over the Philadelphia Phillies.
