Mauricio Pochettino named new US men's soccer coach

Mauricio Pochettino was introduced Friday in New York and he’ll oversee USMNT for the next two years which will take him through the 2026 World Cup.

HOUSTON — Well, it’s real: Mauricio Pochettino is the new United States men’s national team manager.

The world-class manager was introduced Friday in New York and he’ll oversee USMNT for the next two years which will take him through the 2026 World Cup.

Have no doubt, this is the biggest signing in U.S. soccer history. Pochettino brings a coaching pedigree like no other coach that’s managed Team USA. His task is simple: The U.S. must have a competitive World Cup performance in 2026.

Well, maybe it's not so simple after all.

"I, for sure, think we have time (to prepare). We need to really believe in big things and believe that we can win not only a game but the World Cup. If we don’t it’s going to be a difficult journey. We want players that arrive to training camp thinking big," he said.

Pochettino has managed some of the biggest clubs in the world like the Tottenham Spurs and Chelsea of the Premier League and PSG of Ligue 1 which also means he has experience managing some of the best footballers in the world like Lionel Messi and Neymar.
