Dec. 13, 2014—The Cypress Ranch High School football team defeated Converse Judson, 38-31, in the Division I Class 6A state semifinal on Dec. 13 at the Alamodome in San Antonio to advance to the state championship game.

The Mustangs (13-2) will face Allen High School (15-0) in the state final on Saturday, Dec. 20 at 8 p.m. at AT&T Stadium (One AT&T Way) in Arlington. Allen defeated Skyline High School, 52-34, in the other semifinal to advance to the state final.

"We're excited," said Cypress Ranch head football coach Gene Johnson. "Judson was a great team. I'm so proud of our kids to hang in and fight and never give up."

Johnson said he believes the difficult competition in District 17-6A has helped the Mustangs' success in the postseason.

"We have great coaches and great athletes in our district," Johnson said. "That competition tests your mettle and forces you to work as a team. That's part of what we're proving. Now we have the chance to play for a state championship."

Johnson said he appreciated the fan support at the Alamodome, and looks forward to a similar environment in Arlington.

"The crowd was incredible," he said. "A number of people drove from Cypress. It was totally overwhelming to look out into the Alamodome and see a sea of white. I've been so impressed by the amount of school spirit and support we have received, as well as the positivity from students in other high schools in our district. We anticipate another great turnout for the state championship game."
