HOUSTON — Cris Dishman had his team got off on the right foot. Not only did the Texas Southern Tigers beat Prairie View A&M in their first game of the season in the Labor Day Classic, but Dishman also beat his good friend and former Oilers teammate PVAMU Head Coach Bubba McDowell.
"Just coming out, getting that first win under our belts, getting the feeling like now y'all believe," said junior wide receiver Trenton Leary.
With the win, Dishman and TSU brought home the game hardware, the Durley-Nicks Traveling Trophy, back to Third Ward. The Tigers are hoping to have their first winning season since 2000.
"It's for the players, it's for the alumni, it's for the administration here. It's even for the ladies who work in the cafeteria, it's for the people who clean up. It means a lot to have this trophy back here in Third Ward, back here in Houston," said Dishman.
The Tigers play Rice next at Rice Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 6 p.m.
