AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers has returned to the game after briefly being benched for redshirt freshman Arch Manning.
After entering the game at the end of the first half, Manning went three and out on his first drive and the second ended with a sack and fumble, which Georgia turned into 3 more points before halftime.
Ewers struggled early and it never got better as the first half went on, going 6 for 12 through the air for just 17 yards. The junior QB also lost a fumble and threw an interception, both on the Longhorns side of the field.
At halftime, the No. 5 Bulldogs were up 23-0 and it was unclear whether or not Ewers would see the field again. However, since returning to the game, Ewers helped lead the Longhorns down the field for a touchdown and a two-point conversion on the opening possession of the second half
While heading to the locker room, ESPN's Holly Rowe asked Coach Sarkisian about the change, to which he replied, "Trying to give us a little bit of a spark."
The spark Sarkisian was looking for may have been Manning's rushing ability as the young star has scored three touchdowns on the ground in his four appearances this season.
Saturday's game against Georgia is just Ewers' second game back after missing two weeks with an oblique injury suffered against UTSA in Week 2.
