HOUSTON - When it comes to food safety and health inspections among sports venues, Houston’s own NRG Stadium ranks among the top 3 in North America, according to a report from ESPN.

“Outside the Lines” looked at thousands of food safety reports from the more than 100 professional football, baseball, basketball and hockey venues in North America. Types of food violations in these reports include food temperature, poor conditions for the food and bugs, among others.

Among Houston venues, the report found NRG Stadium has the third-lowest food safety violation rate at 4.44 percent. Minute Maid Park came in at 43rd with a 28.57 percent violation rate.

The Toyota Center did not have enough data to review, as the health department’s one inspection report was written “for the entire facility in a way that they could not be broken out,” according to the report.

Among some of the worst venues for food safety was the American Airlines Center in Dallas, which ranked in the bottom three with a 83.08 percent food safety violation rate.
