HOUSTON – The University of Houston launched a new commercial aired during the broadcast of the Cougar's first home game in TDECU Stadium.
The ad showed off the best of UH, including their new $100 million stadium.
"It represents a commitment to athletics, a commitment to being nationally relevant," said Mack Rhoades, Vice President for Intercollegiate athletics at UH.
Rhoades sees storm clouds hovering over college football's "have nots." Rich programs are getting richer, their conference becoming more powerful. So, UH is building quickly.
"Obviously, the stadium is a big part of it," said Rhoades. "We've broken ground on a brand new practice for men's women's basketball. That's a $25 million practice facility. We're committed to doing the full cost of attendance. We're started our 'Cougar Café' where we're feeding our student athletes unlimited meals. So, we're committed to doing all those things."
Already, scores of students sound eager for big time home games.
"We're an awesome school," said UH student Gabrielle McAdams.
They crowded in Friday night trying to prove their school belongs.
