New Texas A&M football coach Jimbo Fisher continues to separate himself from predecessor Kevin Sumlin, and the former Florida State coach's latest quip highlights just how different his style is.
Fisher said in an interview with Dave Campbell's Texas Football that Sumlin's office decor — which featured dark carpet and black walls — required a makeover when he took over the Aggies' program in December.
"It's like a damn nightclub in here," Fisher told the magazine, via The Dallas Morning News. "This ain't gonna be my office."
It's not the first change that Fisher, a West Virginia native, has made to Sumlin's program. He got rid of background music during A&M's spring game and practices, calling it a distraction.
“How in the heck can they hear when you coach them?” Fisher told reporters after a March practice session. “I’m trying to coach them at the same time. Are they going to listen to the song or are they going to listen to me?”
Fisher signed a 10-year, $75 million contract to coach the Aggies, which is one of the most lucrative deals for any college football coach, according to USA TODAY Sports' salary database. He won a national title with Florida State in 2013.
Sumlin spent six seasons with the Aggies and had a 51-26 record. He was fired after the 2017 season and is now Arizona's head coach.
