HOUSTON — Prairie View A&M has parted ways with head football coach and former Houston Oilers star Bubba McDowell after three seasons.
The team announced the news in a social media post on Sunday, saying McDowell’s contract will not be renewed.
“Coach McDowell’s commitment to helping our student-athletes succeed in life both personally and professionally is admirable and a true reflection of his character,” athletic director Anton Goff said in the release.
Goff said assistant head coach Ashton Green will serve as interim head coach while the school searches for a permanent replacement.
This season, Prairie View A&M is 5-7 overall and 3-5 in the SWAC. Last season, the team went 6-6 and in 2022, McDowell’s first season as head coach, the team was 6-5. Overall, the team went 17-18 under McDowell.
McDowell spent six of his seven seasons with the Houston Oilers.
