The Drive: Andreas Katzourakis hopes to achieve rare Greek feat

The Greek boxer, who trains in Houston, talked to KHOU 11's Jason Bristol while taking a drive around town.

HOUSTON — Andreas Katzourakis hopes to make boxing history.

Katzourakis, who's from Greece and trains in Houston, is trying to become the first Greek boxing world champion since 1941.

"By achieving that, you can open a pathway for Greek talent and Greek athletes," he said. "But also to have some bigger (boxing) shows and bigger promotions back home."

Katzourakis (13-0, 10 KOs) will fight Robert Terry (13-0, 4 KOs) on August 30 in the semifinals of Overtime's super welterweight tournament, which began with eight fighters and features a grand prize of $100,000 and an "OTX promotional agreement." The final four matches are being held at OTE Arena in Atlanta.

Katzourakis recently appeared on 'The Drive' with KHOU 11's Jason Bristol.

Katzourakis arrived in Houston roughly three years ago to develop his skills with trainer Ronnie Shields, who works with current middleweight champion Jermall Charlo.

"I don't think the odds are stacked against me anymore," Katzourakis said.
