BAYTOWN It was a tense day on the Fred Hartman Bridge where a young woman was threatening to jump into the Houston Ship Channel.
The 20-year-old woman climbed over the concrete barrier around 8:30 a.m. as drivers sped by.
Precinct 8 deputies closed two lanes of traffic while negotiators tried to convince her to come down.
The negotiators with Baytown Police Departmentfinally coaxedherto surrender around3:30 p.m., more than7 hours after the standoff began.
Baytown police took the woman to a hospital to be checked out.
