Fort Worth wife gets best of both of worlds: Whataburger and ‘Whatacoop’

When Trisha Ruiz's husband asked her to move to some land in Fort Worth, Trisha only had two conditions: A Whataburger had to be no more than 10 minutes away from her home, and she wanted chickens.

FORT WORTH, Texas — We’ve seen many cases on how Whataburger fans show their love for the fast food joint, but Trisha Ruiz may take the cake.

Trisha is not only an extreme Whataburger stan, but she also loves chickens. So, when her husband asked her to move to some land in Fort Worth, Trisha only had two conditions: A Whataburger had to be no more than 10 minutes away from her home, and she wanted chickens.

Trisha got her wish.

Her husband not only found some land near a Whataburger, but he also built her a customized Whataburger chicken coop for her chickens. It came about when she pointed out to her husband that while she could still drive to Whataburger, she wasn’t able to walk there anymore.

‘Fine,” he told her. “I’ll build you your own.”

Her husband customized the Whatacoop to fit the chicken’s needs. The coop has cozy spots for them to perch, hide away and socialize with one another. There are also areas up top for the chickens to lay eggs.

“Our chickens are pets,” she says. “We love our chicken. We don’t eat them. We just play with them.”

Most of her flock are Sillkie chickens, fluffy chicks who are soft to the touch. To keep with the Whataburger theme, Trisha dresses them in custom-made orange “saddles” and bibs.

Trisha’s flock is 15 strong, but she plans on getting more.

“I’ve got enough room, and we’ll just build another Whataburger coop. Or maybe we can put in a drive-thru.”

The coop has been a hit in her neighborhood. Trisha says people frequently stop and take pictures because you can see it from the street.
