HOUSTON — Turn around don't drown.
We hear it all the time, but it's not until you are caught up in an emergency that you may need to remind yourself of this life-saving rule - especially here in Houston where flash flooding is all too common.
KHOU 11 was in Kingwood early Wednesday where part of Hamblen Road washed away overnight. The waters have now receded, but a large portion of the road is missing.
"This is why it is dangerous to drive through flooded roadways, even if you are in a high profile vehicle," tweeted the National Weather Service in Houston. "If you can't see the road, you can't know it is still there. Stay safe when encountering flooded roads! #TurnAroundDontDrown or Stay Put until flooding recedes."
Nearly 400 homes took on water from the Tuesday’s heavy rain in Kingwood, according to Houston firefighters.
Boats and trucks helped rescue people trapped inside their homes. At last check, emergency responders got more than 250 calls for high water rescues throughout Tuesday night's severe weather.
