HOUSTON Continuing his efforts and commitment to keep Harris County safe and save taxpayers money, Sheriff Adrian Garcia has changed the inmate visitation schedule at the Harris County Jail.
Beginning Monday, visits to inmates by the public will take place four days a week, with extended hours on some days, rather than seven days a week. State law requires visits two days per week.
There will no longer be visits allowed on Monday, Thursday and Friday.
Visiting hours will be allowed from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday; and from 3:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Garcia says the changes will save the county an estimated $1.3 million a year by not having to staff extra positions in the lobby and visitor control center on non-visitation days.
Currently, the Harris County Jail averages about 1,700 visitors a day.
