TSU shooting victim’s family pleas for help finding gunman

The parents of a Texas Southern University student who was fatally shot at a party issue a plea for help solving the crime.

HOUSTON -- The parents of a Texas Southern University student who was fatally shot at a party issued a plea for help solving the crime Friday.

No one has been arrested in connection with Joshua McMackle s death and they want someone to come forward and lead police to their son's killer.

The 18-year-old college freshman died after he was shot in the back last weekend during a street party in the 3700 block of Wheeler, near the T.S.U. campus.

My son was taken from me, very tragically, said Bruce McMackle.

Police say it happened after a confrontation between Joshua McMackle's friends and another group of young people. According to investigators, the groups had a history of confrontations. But, police also say it was not gang-related.

It had nothing to do with a gang, his mother said. I'm sure he didn't have a clue what he was doing, and thought -- if anything, he's just
a boy who probably wrestles or something like that, but never with guns.

Police have identified Khiry McCullum as a person of interest in the case. Police say they want to interview McCullum. They said they believe that he is now in the Washington, DC area.
