These are the two systems we're watching in the tropics

It is that time of the year... more waves and disturbances are starting to brew in the Atlantic.

The numbers of storms we see really ramps up for the month of August and then peaks during September...September 10 to be exact. So the fact we are watching two new waves in the Atlantic is not surprising. In any case, something we need to monitor closely.

At this point the chance for development remains low and to add if anything does develop it looks to remain east of the Florida coastline. So we are not talking Gulf coast weather.

Notice the wave we are monitoring near the Caribbean is expected to stay east of Florida and remain in the Atlantic. The reason for this- the big ridge of high pressure keeping us hot with a rain chance will help steer anything that would try to move in- away from us. So that is always a pleasant sight during hurricane season. Right now it only has a 20% chance of developing over the next 5 days.

The other wave we will continue to follow is just off the coast of Africa. This is a popular place for development. We are in Cape Verde season... which is the most popular time for waves to develop near the Cape Verde islands and because of our upper level wind patters help to steer the cluster of thunderstorms, or the disturbance westward across the Atlantic.

At this point it is really far to tell if we would have any impacts and if this area will develop. Something we will watch, monitor and update you if we have any information.
