HOUSTON -- Police arrested a woman accused of murdering her 10-year-old son in what some describe as one of the most horrific cases in the Houston area.
Last year Johnathon Singer was found dead in a plastic bag in a cardboard box in the back of a SUV his father was driving. The 46-year-old man, Jeffrey Singer, has also been indicted for murdering the child.
A grand jury returned the indictments this week.
A prosecutor said it took this long to gather all the evidence in the case that left so many people shocked. The boy had cerebral palsy and was blind.
Prosecutors said Tina Madrid starved the child, who only weighed 28 pounds when he died. Detectives said the mother also left him alone in a bathtub, which is where he is believed to have drowned.
Prosecutors would not elaborate any further on the case.
Madrid and her husband were living in Pasadena with Jonathon when relatives asked police to check on the child. He was found in the box outside his grandparents home in Spring.
His father admitted driving there and was arrested for serious bodily injury.
KHOU 11 News attempted to speak with Madrid in jai but we were told that would not be possible at this time.
She is being held on a $50,000 bond.
