HOUSTON — Michael Wright has been keeping an eye on his mail recently, and for good reason.
He's been waiting for a $26,000 check to arrive. It's his insurance payout for a totaled car.
He said he's been following KHOU 11's coverage of the mail delays for several weeks, and now, after waiting for weeks, he's worried that it could be another thing that's caught in the backlog.
Wright said the United States Postal Office's informed delivery tool showed that the check should have arrived last week, but while other pieces of mail were delivered, the check never made it.
He's afraid that it's still lost out there somewhere.
He said he was frustrated because the check had already been delayed due to a processing issue and the extended wait has caused an even bigger strain on his life.
"Just from leaving messages, filing claims with the post office, trying to contact the courier on her cell. I've had it happen once before -- a piece of mail didn't come on that day -- it might come on the next day, but never, like, usually the second day it arrives," he said.
Wright said he was not sure if the check was stolen or lost like so many other packages.
Last Thursday, lawmakers toured the Missouri City processing facility that's been at the center of the mail delay problems in the area. They said the delays were getting under control and would share updates on the situation.
Wright said he's hoping the check shows up soon so he doesn't have to have the insurance company cut a new check, which would reset his wait time.
