HOUSTON – It's Teddy time at The Health Museum! Teddy Bear Checkup, a holiday event where children bring their favorite stuffed friends for their annual checkup, returns from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Dec. 13 at The Health Museum, 1515 Hermann Drive in the Museum District.
Kids can bring their teddy bear, doll or other favorite friend for a "beary" special checkup. This annual event allows kids to become doctor-for-a-day while they visit several stations like the Teddy Exam Room, Tough Teeth, Beary Fit and more. Kids get hands-on experience checking their Teddy's health while learning proper oral hygiene, how to listen to the heart with a stethoscope, keeping Teddy fit with stretches and moderate exercise and administering a band-aid for the occasional boo-boo.
"Teddy Bear Checkup is a great way for kids to become aware of annual health checkups," said Anna Hawley, Chief Operating Officer of The Health Museum. "Going for a checkup can seem scary for kids, so our event removes that stigma and helps children learn the importance of annual checkups while having fun at the same time," she said.
Kids and their VIPs (Very Important Patients) will also enjoy holiday and science themed activities and crafts. This year, The Health Museum invites attendees to bring an extra bear to donate to the KHOU 11 Secret Santa Toy Drive, benefiting the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program. Teddy Bear Checkup is free with the purchase of a general admission ticket.
