SUGAR LAND, Texas -- It's been said that Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart began composing at the age of 5.
That happens to be the same tender age as Arthur Zhou of Sugar Land.
Arthur is naturally gifted enough to have won first place in the American Protege International Piano and Strings Competition. Arthur and his sister Julianne, 9, won in the 5 to 10-year-old age bracket. Arthur tied for the youngest winner in this group.
Arthur is someone who mostly let the keys doing the talking when we interviewed him.
It's a competition entered by thousands around the world and one he and Julianne, also entered and won, playing a duet together.
"The piano is fun and it's easy to learn," Julianne said.
Mom Hanxing and father David are not musically inclined.
"I don't force them to play piano, I just hope they can do it by themselves," Hanxing said.
They say Arthur has a special gift for memorizing a piece quickly.
"He didn't practice that much every day. He practices 30 to 40 minutes," Hanxing added.
With the win comes a trip to Carnegie Hall and New York City where Arthur has been dying to go.
Now Arthur has his eyes set on another Big Apple landmark: the Statue of Liberty.
The Zhous head to New York City in May.
