RICHMOND, Texas -- Residents living on the east side of the Brazos River in Richmond are waiting and watching as the water rises.

The City of Richmond is encouraging residents east of the river to be prepared for potential flooding. The alert includes but is not limited to: Riveredge Drive; Strange Drive; Baudet Road; Edgewood and Greenwood Drive.

The river is predicted to rise to 50.1 feet by 4 a.m. Monday. The flood level is 48 feet.

The City of Richmond is not mandating evacuations, but is urging residents in the flood-prone areas to be prepared to evacuate if necessary.

Ester Rubalcaba has lived in her house for 50 years and it has never flooded.
Unless there is a mandatory evacuation, she will stay at home with her faith.

"Well, I believe in God and hopefully everything is alright," Rubalcaba said.

Police are on patrol in the neighborhoods along the river keeping an eye on water levels.

"It is rising a lot faster than we expected," said Lieutenant Lowell Neinast with Richmond Police. "We are encouraging them to secure outside property and place anything in the house up high."

If the water rises as high as emergency officials predict, the floodwater could stick around for three days.
