Repo turns deadly after man falls off car being towed, police say

Houston police say a tow truck driver showed up to repossess a man’s car and a dispute ensued. The victim jumped on his own car and fell off.

HOUSTON — A man died after he jumped onto his own car and fell off as it was being repossessed by a tow truck driver, according to the Harris County District Attorney's Office.

The tow truck driver showed up to repossess the man’s car and while arguing, the 70-year-old victim jumped on his own car and fell off, the D.A.'s Office said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD says the man got in between the two cars with the intent to stop the tow truck driver and was hit by his own vehicle.

Police say the 33-year-old tow truck driver didn't stop to help the victim but drove to Pasadena and dropped off the car.

The tow truck driver works for Harris County Impound.

He returned to the scene later this morning and was taken into custody. He has not yet been charged.

This happened around 7:30 a.m. in the 7400 block of S. Gessner in southwest Houston.
