Prayer vigil held at George Ranch High for slain coach, school employee

A George Ranch High School head football coach and a female teacher have been confirmed as victims of a shooting Friday night at a Rosenberg hotel, along with another man, police and school district officials said Saturday.

ROSENBERG, Texas Grief counselors were on-hand at George Ranch High School Monday after the head football coach and a school employee were found shot to death in a local hotel.

The bodies of Coach Trevor White, 39, and 39-year-old Destiny Pickett, the school s instructional coordinator, were found around 5 p.m. Friday at a hotel in the 2800 block of the Southwest Freeway.

The body of Pickett s estranged husband, 50-year-old Clifford Pickett, was also found in the room.

Investigators believe it was a double murder-suicide.

Rosenberg police said all three of the deceased suffered fatal gunshot wounds. The hotel room window was shattered.

Fort Bend County records show the Picketts had been separated since February 28, 2011. They have two children.

Students and staff held a prayer vigil for White and Pickett at the George Ranch High campus on Monday.

Lamar CISD is deeply saddened by the loss of two George Ranch HS staff members on Friday, April 1. Ripples of grief have spread throughout our students, staff and community. Both of these staff members had a positive impact on many students during their educational careers, the district said in a statement released Sunday.

White was hired as the first head coach and athletic coordinator at George Ranch in January of 2010. Prior to his move to Lamar CISD, white coached and taught in Alief ISD and a number of other Texas school districts.

Pickett was hired for the opening of George Ranch High in August of 2010. Prior to that, she d worked for the district for 10 years at Lamar Junior High.
